Knitting class
This is a photo from last Tuesday. It was the first night of my knitting class and I'm sporting all my yarn and needles in Nicos handmade bag. I know how to knit, but only one thing, the knit stitch. I had taught myself so that I could knit everyone hats and scarves one Christmas (can you believe I made 17 of them), but to be able to do more than that I need to know how to purl, fix missed loops and things like that. I had taught myself from a book and as a 3D animator I understand how important it can be to see something in real space, like an actual person pulling yarn over a needle rather than interpreting a drawing in a book. I was surprised at how many people were in the class, in fact the teacher had to surrender her chair. I've got another class tonight.

I, too, also only know how to knit... My grandmother taught me to knit when I was very young and then I re-taught myself with a book called the Knitting Goddess.
I think you are better at finishing things though, Gina! I'm still working on the same monster scarf!
You've been busy, busy, busy again I see... It's going to take me an hour to look at everything.
Knitting is fun if you have the time and patience. I learned how to knit and purl in junior high. All I've had the patience for to date are a few different variation in scarves. :) I like to see a quick turn around and it just seems to take so long knitting I lost patience and interest and go onto the next project, which is usually a good book! haha! :)
Since I'm catching up, I don't want to barrage you with multiple comments, so I'll do one long one! Super cute monkey pincushion! I love the color combination! How'd you get the little flower on your heart pin? Is it a wee applique? The movie was great! Happy Easter right back! Have fun in your knitting class! I love me some knit stitch but I'm so slow at purling.
your favorite wife - thank you sweetie, you are always so kind (and ditto)! It is fun!
lady k - that's so wonderful, those are the sort of memories that nostalgia was made for. I suppose my family was more crochet oriented, that's what I was taught when I was little. My mom still prefers to crochet, you should see the beautiful afghan she made for me for my wedding, it has the most ethereal three dimensional roses on it. Maybe I'll take a photo of it and post it on the blog. The Knitting Goddess that is so fitting considering that you are the Art Goddess!
alaphrench - I hear you sister, there is nothing like output! That is so lovely that you were taught when you were young. And if you are going to have an alternative, books sure are a good one to have.
scribbles & bits - please feel free to barrage any time! So glad you liked the pincushion and pin. The little flower is indeed a felt appliqué. Happy Easter to you too, I had a great class thank you!
that's so cool you are taking a knitting class! that's something i'd like to do!
I dunno about knitting, I picked something easy like embroidery.....
babybug - thanks, and you can do it! It's fun : )
monica - ah, that's some pretty cool stuff.
Oh wonderful, I got knitting books but still trying to teach myself how to knit. I have made one weird shaped scarf! I also love the handmade bag you have.
I'm having a lot of fun with the knitting cruststation. Thank you, nico makes some really cute stuff. Her bag is my favorite right now : )

hey i dont really get the purl / knit meanings but your rows look really neat! and i like how you looks so content and pleased sitting in your hello kitty throne cute to the max!
Everybody just loved your bag nico! Now that my knitting class is over I packed the supplies for that class back onto my shelf and restocked your bag with supplies for my new sewing class. I had my first class last night and the teacher actually had be hold your bag up for the class to see! I was sure to call my friend nico an "inspiration".
